DOROTHY WASSERMAN - Rhythm Tap

Dorothy Wasserman has been part of the tap dance resurgence since the mid 1970's. She recently released "The Dorothy Shim Sham", an instructional tap dance DVD. This dance is an updated version of the classic dance "The Shim Sham Shimmy" and was choreographed by Wasserman in the late 1970's.

Dorothy’s film credits include featured dancer and choreographer in the1989 movie TAP, starring Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr. and Savion Glover. "The Dorothy Shim Sham" was performed in the nightclub scene in this movie.
Wasserman was also the assistant director for the award winning video documentary "Great Feats of Feet" featuring Honi Coles and the Copasetics.

A former student of Brenda Bufalino, Wasserman danced at the Pilgrim Theater in New York City with Bufalino and Company in "Singing, Swinging and Winging". Other performing credits include Jane Goldberg's All Woman's Tap Show "Sole Sisters" and "Topical Tap", a show blending tap with social commentary.

Wasserman has been a faculty member and choreographer at NJSDA since 1992. Dorothy also teaches Art in the public elementary schools in Long Valley, NJ. She was awarded the Geraldine R. Dodge Artist/ Educator Fellowship in 2005.Dorothy is a visual artist and has shown her work extensively throughout the United States.
