New Jersey Civic Youth Ballet Celebrates its 10th Anniversary of “The Nutcracker” December 5 and 6, 2009

The New Jersey Civic Youth Ballet will celebrate its 10th anniversary of “The Nutcracker” onDecember 5th at12:00 & 7:00 and December 6th, 2009 at 2:00, at the Mt. Olive Middle School Theater, Wolfe Road, Mt. Olive.

The classic holiday story is told from Clara’s perspective, engaging the audience from the first scene to the verylast moment. Through the narration, young children understand afanciful fairytale, while the rest of us realize that this is truly a story of life, love and the holiday spirit.

 

Guest artists include Elisabeth Holowchuk and Momchil Maldenov from the Suzanne Farrell Ballet Company in Washington, D.C.  Ms. Holowchuk, formerly of Mt. Olive, is one of four young women who danced in NJCYB’s inaugural “The Nutcracker” in 2000. Alex Dresser of Lebanon, Lisa Krainik of Long Valley, and Sarah Renna of Liberty Township were also dancers in the organization’s first holiday performance.  In addition, both Ms. Krainik and Ms. Renna have danced in every Nutcracker ballet for the past 10 years with NJCYB.

The role of Clara will be played by Natalie Mehl of Califon, Michelle Quiner of Chester, and Kayla Walsh of Budd Lake. Fritz will be played by Kara Byrnes of Budd Lake, Katya Reed of Long Valley, and Caeley Tierney of Allamuchy.

The New Jersey Civic Youth Ballet is a non-profit dance company that is dedicated to offering young, talented New Jersey dancers an opportunity to perform classical and contemporary ballets in a pre-professional/professional company. Dancers are selected for the company through open auditions, which occur at scheduled intervals during the year. This year’s production of "The Nutcracker" is made possible by the sponsorship of businesses and supporting membership of the New Jersey Civic Youth Ballet.
